August EP650 Wireless Headphones Review

When it comes to purchasing headphones, you will want to choose a set that has great overall sound and that is also good quality.

Recently I purchased and tried out the August EP650 Wireless Headphones.

While there are popular companies that produce great headphones, such as Beats, and SkullCandy, I think it is important to try out brands that are not overly popular too.

While I am sometimes dubious of headphones that are fairly inexpensive, this was not the case with the August EP650’s.

The sound was incredible, and they were great value for the money. If you are looking for headphones on a budget, I would certainly recommend purchasing these.

In this article I have reviewed these headphones in detail to provide you with all the information you need to know about them.

August Company Background

Before I delve into my review, it is useful for you to have some background information on August as a company.

August International is a fairly new company that is based in the UK. They have created a number of different products such as headphones, health trackers, electronic accessories, and portable televisions.

They specialize in wireless products and have much knowledge on electronics. They carry out a lot of research for their products, and they aim to provide products with the best possible quality, while keeping their prices competitive, and affordable.

August EP 650 Review

I have split my review of the August EP650 Wireless Headphones into different specification sections to help you find all the information you need easily.

Price and Specifications

I want to talk about the price of the August EP650 Headphones. They are extremely affordable and great value for the money.

When purchasing headphones of a similar cost, typically I tend to expect them to be somewhat lacking in quality. But this was not the case.

While they are affordable, you are not losing out when it comes to the quality of them.

When you compare the price of these headphones to the more well known brands, they are more than half the price.

The August EP650’s are available to purchase in 5 different colors:

  • Black
  • Red
  • White
  • Gold
  • Silver

While these are fairly basic colors, there is enough choice to suit a wide range of different preferences. The colors are bold.

The overall dimensions of the headphones are 176.6 x 188.6 x 71 mm. They are not overly large, but large enough that they can be worn comfortably. They only weigh a total of 235g.

They are extremely lightweight and will not feel uncomfortable when worn over a longer period. Being so lightweight you can easily carry them in your bag.

In addition to being lightweight, they can be folded to make storing and carrying far easier. You can choose to purchase a case for these headphones, but that will need to be purchased separately at an additional cost.

Comfort

These headphones fit over the ear and are very comfortable to wear. They do not dig into the ears, and have padded ear cushions for comfort.

The headband of the headphones is comfortable and even if you wear glasses, this will not hinder you from using them.

The headband is fairly flexible while remaining sturdy, and is comfortable on the head. It can be easily adjusted to suit your head.

These headphones do not break easily and the pads can be replaced if they wear or become damaged over time. This is great as it does extend the overall lifespan of these headphones.

They are versatile and can be used in many situations, whether you are at home, at the gym, or commuting to work.

Sound

When choosing headphones, one of the most important things you will need to consider is the overall sound they produce. The last thing you will want is for the sound to be distorted or tinny.

I was very impressed with the sound of the August EP650 Headphones. It was crisp, clear, and the Bluetooth was not interrupted when in use.

The sound produced was warm and rich. The bass was good, and the treble was clear. The driver units included are 50 mm.

What is great about the August EP650’s is that they have customizable sound. When you download the August Audio app, it enables you to adjust the sound, equalizer, 3D, and diode. The LED colors can be changed with the app too.

While these headphones do have a good sound, they do not feature active noise-cancelling.

Connection Details

As these headphones are wireless, they connect via Bluetooth 4.2. They use aptX Low Latency and NFC. The wireless connection is easy to set up and is strong and stable when in use. It can connect up to 10 meters in total.

The connection is good and is compatible with many devices such as, Windows PC, Mac, iPad, iPod, smartphones, tablets, and android.

The NFC means that the headphones will automatically connect to a paired device, and you will not have to worry about manually setting up the Bluetooth connection before every use. This saves a lot of time overall.

The aptX Low Latency ensures that the connection remains stable, and that there is as little interference as possible. The distortion is <1.0%.

While these headphones are designed to be wireless, you can connect them using the 3.5 mm Audio Jack Cable that comes with the headphones if you prefer. This will enable you to keep using the headphones if they do run out of battery. This is particularly useful if you are travelling.

Multipoint Connection

An interesting and useful feature of these headphones is the multipoint technology.

This allows you to connect the headphones to two different devices at the same time. This will enable you to connect to your PC and smartphone at the same time.

This means that you will be able to listen to music or watch videos on your laptop, and if you receive a notification or phone call on your phone you the headphones are connected ready to receive it.

This takes away to need to disconnect and then reconnect the headphones to the separate devices.

Microphone And Controls

The headphones come with a good built-in microphone which enables you to use the headphones for phone calls. It allows the headphones to be hands free.

There are controls on the side of the headphones that allow you to do things such as changing songs, the volume, and answering phone calls. This is useful if your phone is in your pocket or bag.

Charging and Battery Life

The headphones come with a USB charging cable to charge the headphones when needed.

They are easy to charge and only take two hours to gain a full battery. The built-in battery is a 3.7V 220mAh Li-polymer.

A good positive of these headphones is that you can use them for up to 15 hours before they will need to be charged.

When you compare this to how long they need to be charged for, this is a big difference.

If these headphones are left on standby, the battery life will last up to 30 days.

Warranty

The headphones come with a one-year manufacturer warranty.

Although the August EP650 Headphones are created by a UK manufacturer, the company has a US support team to answer and resolve any queries that you may have.

Pros:

  • Multipoint connection - As this can be connected to two different devices, this is particularly useful if you are waiting for a phone call but want to listen to music on your laptop, for example.
  • Battery Life - Over 15 hours of battery life is great, and you have the option of connecting the audio jack to listen to music if the battery runs out.
  • Price - These headphones are fantastic value for the money, especially when you consider all of its specifications. They are a great option if you are shopping on more of a budget.
  • Sound - The headphones produce a great sound overall which can be adjusted using the August Sound App.

Cons:

  • No Noise Cancelling Technology - While the audio is good, the headphones do not feature noise-cancelling technology to block sounds outside the headphones, which some users prefer to have.

Summary

To conclude, I was pleasantly surprised by the sound and quality of these headphones.

Given how inexpensive they are they sound produced is fantastic. The connectivity is great, and they are comfortable to wear.

While they do not feature noise-cancelling technology, they feature multi connection and the Bluetooth connection is brilliant.

They come in a good range of colors, and because they are foldable, they are easy to transport when you are on the go.

Overall, I would certainly recommend purchasing these headphones. They have a good battery life and given that you can connect them to an audio jack when they run out of charge, you are not limited by how much you can use them.

They also charge quickly, which is a great feature!
